Description
From: Bucharest, Orthodox church
Adress: Strada Radu Vodă 33, București 030167
It is not known exactly when the church was buit, but legend tells that it was erected by Bucur, the founder of the city. The historical evidence reveals that it dates from the 17th century stood on the same hill as the Negru Vodă Monastery and was used as a chapel. Hidden among Communist-era blocks, the small church has particularly rich icons.
On the hill is this small church, inspired as if by the architecture of peasant houses in Muntenia. The entrance is through a portico with wooden pillars similar to the spire, the spire is simple and the dome is shaped like a muschrom. The door and the windows have carved stone frames applied at the beginning of the 20th century.
The church, dedicated to Saints Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria, is perhaps the oldest church in the capital of Romania. Today, the church serves the parish in the area, carrying out a rich spiritual activity.
